OMG Bards are POWERFUL in LDoN!

I have always agreed that LDoN was made with bards in mind, but after last night, I think even more highly of what bards can do (and that's a tall order coming from a devout bard like me). Note, not tooting my own horn (pun intended) here. Aryon, my cleric buddy sends me a tell asking if I want an LDoN group. Normally I always follow that up with what classes you got to make sure they don't have a non-chealing druid as main healer. For Aryon, it's an immediate sure. I get there without asking what we have, only to find out we have a 65 Cleric, 65 Pally MA, 59 War, 63 Rogue, 62 Mage, and me a 62 Bard. Notice anything about that group? Actually took me a second myself, but I soon came to realize we had no slow, no haste, and no CC for LDoN... Now I'm a fair bard and know my class as well as most, but come on... Haste (dependent), Slow (pre 64 bards aren't much in the way of slowers), Snare, CC, Pulling, mana and DS is a tall order for one person, hehe! I was busier than I've ever been in my bard career, reminded me of learning to swarm kite. Well, to make a long story short, we did surprisingly well! We didn't win due to stingy mobs (collection where we got all but 3 in 30 min. and couldn't get the last one before time ran out). But we would have if it weren't for a hellish room FILLED with mobs close together and filled with spiderwebs. I hate spiderwebs, you can't target through them worth a darn. Well, needless to say trying to target and lull up close caused a train of about 4 mobs that resisted 7 out of 8 attempts to mez. After the wipe, we raced to get V back (the only buff we had other than the mage's DS) on the MA and pull one last mob. Halfway through the mob, the time expired but 20 seconds later we got partial points. GRRRR. Essentially though, it was a testament to just how awesome a bard can be when they use every skill and song they have to their potential! One other note, I found out that if you are VERY careful, you can actually use Mischief in LDoN to slow 45%, which is not too shabby for us folks without Requium of Time. One time I accidently triggered a trap (bitten victim) but the few spiders that spawned were easy to mez and dispatch. I combination of Assonance (32% slow) for areas where a trap or adds may be aggro'd with AoE slow, and AoE slow (45%) worked out well. I just sent a tell to the cleric anytime I was using the lower slow, but with our DPS, it didn't use up that much more mana with our quick battles. I will definitely keep this slow strategy in the back of my mind if I'm ever the main slower again. Just remember, Mischief has a dot component so if you do aggro something with it, you have to wait until it wears off (18 seconds) to mez it or mez will be broken. All in all, I had a blast, but was busier than a one-armed paper hanger for an hour. Even though we didn't win, we should have (I had just finished a collection in 28 min. with a standard group and this wierd group had 3 left after 30 min.). I think the folks that were there have a new respect for bards, which was worth it to me. Hehe. BARDS RAWK! Sinfonian

Re: OMG Bards are POWERFUL in LDoN!

Hmm edit didn't seem to work. Go figure. Anyway, I thought about it and decided to add my playlist for you in case it helps. 1) 62-Zek (As sole haster, this was a must) 2) 60-Warsong (Overhaste is always in my twist) 3) 62-Mischief (45% Slow and 35 pt. dot used most of the time) 4) 62-Marr (Would twist in at 50% and 10% health) 5) 60-Assonance (Pull song, 32% slow and 45 pt. dot, if tight quarters and AoE not possible, this was only slow, otherwise it made for a nice 80 pt. dot when combined with Mischief) 6) 61-Quellious (Lull) 7) 62-Thule (Mez) 8) 51-Largos (rarely did I need to snare but when I did it saved adds) Hehe I can't stress enough the recommendation to STUDY the songlist, you never know when you will be called on to do the impossible, something bards CAN do if they use their songs and skills to the fullest advantage. RAWK ON! Sinfonian :)

Re: OMG Bards are POWERFUL in LDoN!

Sinfonian, I've been meaning to ask other bards what they do on Takish LDoN missions. THE DOORS ARE KILLING ME! Lately, what I've been doing is using my singing steel helm to target mobs directly inside of the doors, but that's a good 1 minute+ wasted on lulling. Other than spending about 100p+ to invest in stalking probes, has anybody found something that would be more time effective? I really want to get up to some Royal Attendant Armor, but alot of the time my missions are REALLY close to failing, if not failed.

Re: OMG Bards are POWERFUL in LDoN!

I've had less than a great deal of experience with Tak, but what I do on all doors is click it open from the farthest distance I can and back up, then move sideways outside the room to see if I can target a door guard or two. I have had a great deal of success there, even if I have to move in to lull, I just pop in, cast, back out. Seems I'm not in their aggro range long enough to aggro before lull hits then I can camp them pretty much. You are right, I have never used my SS helm because I find prescious time is wasted (poor choice of words) on lulling every mob in the room before I pull the closest just to avoid adds. Even at 3 seconds a lull, it can take forever to clear a room with 8 mobs in it. Once in a while I get aggro on one mob of a 2 guard door, but normally I've lulled the next closest and one of the door guards so I only get one mob and it's no big deal. I don't remember if Tak is special, but I've had great success pulling in LDoN. Hope that helps, Sinfonian

If you have a clicky invis item, you can invis into the room in most instances to target. Very few mobs see invis in LDoN, from my experience.

Re: OMG Bards are POWERFUL in LDoN!

Yeah, I was just hoping there was a method of having a perfect pull on the 2 guard doors... I hate having to mez a mob while fighting another in "any" group because I'm then limiting myself to just melee, as opposed to stacking haste, slow, regen, damage shield etc... I'm curious how you don't get aggro when you go into a room to lull. Usually the entrances to the rooms in tak are fairly small, and when you enter the room you get instant agro. Like I said earlier, the door is the thing that's limiting me. The way it opens, is it goes inside of the room, as opposed opening towards you. Almost 90% of the time that blocks my sight from seeing the mob through that door.

Invis would work, though I don't have an item so I'd have to make sure no pets were out. That and I've been doing MM a bunch lately and it has undead mobs in there, so that wouldn't work for them. Sinfonian

Re: OMG Bards are POWERFUL in LDoN!

the door thing.. blah hate it, so much that I don't even bother lulling those.. I open the door and lull the ones I see. then I peak in get agro of the two in the door, and draw them in :b. if we have a chanter.. the chanter mez the adds.. if we have BL.. pet takes the add.. if not I mez... it and then help out the tank.. If, I'm mezzing.. I usually start twisting my other songs in when the mob I'm fighting hits around 35%.. plenty of time for the mob to die, and then attack the other mob. Even if timing is slightly off I only take a few shots.. I usually can survive it.. if by chance we get a healer.. (god I hate them) i just reaply the mez on the mob.. again.. it takes a few secs.. but no biggie .. they hit like wimps...

Re: OMG Bards are POWERFUL in LDoN!

So far my LDoN experience has been pretty wild. Some groups just want me to train the entire room and off tank, others want me to help mez and others don't have a clue what I'm capable of doing or what they're doing :) Anyhow, just thought I'd throw my two cents in regarding a few things. Your song list is pretty well thought out there Sin, just wanted to add my normal line up as another option: 1. Zek (haste, atk, str) 2. Psalm of Warmth (ds) 3. Warsong (overhaste :) 4. Largo's or Marr 5. OOS (great for pulling) 6. Mez 7. Quellious What I typically do when pulling is get the room lulled, pick my target, start OOS and run back next to the main tank. The nice thing about this is OOS has a HUGE range so by the time it actually hits the mob I can have zek and psalm going which means when the mob hits me it's eating my DS :) As for those doors in Tak I guess I've been pretty lucky as they don't seem to cause me much grief other than they will close on me every so often while I'm trying to target. On the other hand, even if I am the main cc I don't mind getting an add or two since I can get a couple of songs in for the group while keeping mez up. The trick here is to have an /assist hotkey. Taking my song line up above, and assuming I'm the main slower, my typical twist with one add would be 1, 3, /assist, 4, target mob to mez, 6. This allows me to keep the group fairly well buffed, the main mob slowed and the add mezzed. It gets a little bit worse with more than one add, and if there's enough tankage I'll just ask for them to tank mez since that's going to be faster in some cases than me trying to keep mez on 3 or 4 mobs. Happy adventuring and may your voice never give out :)

Anyone else having trouble with toggle last two targets? I can get it to work sometimes but other times no matter how many times I smash it, it doesn't toggle? I thought it was that when I assist to get my target it doesn't register, but that doesn't seem to be the case? I suck at CC without toggle last two targets, I can't keep much up at all. Any help here? Sinfonian

Re: OMG Bards are POWERFUL in LDoN!

Sinfonian: The toggle last two targets function, as it works now, literally switches back and forth between the very last two things you targeted, even if those two things are the same mob. Example: I am in Tak and a small ambush party behind a door jumps me. I come back to camp with two mobs, mezzing one mob while meleeing the MTs target. What will usually happen in the heat of battle: I will pound autotarget (F8 for most; mine is remapped to s) like there's no tomorrow while circling the mobs 'til I get the one I want to mez on my target. Then I will start singing mez. While its casting bar counts down, I pound my MA hotkey like there's no tomorrow. Here's what my targeting history might look like: MT Target (from when I pulled) MT Target MT Target MT Target (Grr, autotarget isn't getting the mob I want!!) CC Target CC Target CC Target (pounded autotarget impatiently) (Mezes) MT Target MT Target MT Target (pounded MA hotkey impatiently) So, even though there are only two mobs, my most recent target and my next-to-most-recent target are the same mob. In this case, pounding the tab key will leave my target just like it is, which isn't very helpful. What I have to do in order for tab to be useful: I have to be sure that when I target, I only hit the key ONE time switching over to the other target. Example: MT Target (from what I pulled) MT Target MT Target MT Target (autotarget is being difficult as usual) CC Target (Stop clicking/pounding autotarget! Tab can now be used to switch between the two!) This way, I can target the MT target, target the CC target, start a mez, switch back to the MT target and wail on it, twist in melee buffs once the mez lands until time to remez, etc. I hope that helps. Ellora: I, too, have suffered much at the hands of what I now call the Tak Doorway Ambush Parties (TDAP). Here's an excerpt from an LDoN bard guide I'm working on that details how I deal with 'em: "- Don't let an ambush happen to you - Some of the mob placement in LDoN can be described with such terms as evil, sadistic, and downright sneaky. It's never fun to have two or more (sometimes, MANY more) previously unnoticed mobs jump you as you walk into a room to pull. This is particularly true in Takish'hiz, where the door to the next room is nearly always an actual door that you must click or hit "U" to open. Now, we all know that the proper, safe thing to do is to run an Eye of Zomm up to the door using our Singing Steel Helms, peep inside, and systematically lull everything in the room into a nice cozy picture without actually getting near the mobiles' aggro ranges. As we also know, doing that takes up an awful lot of time, and in adventure mode every second counts. So what must you do? One answer is this: think "first person shooter." In the case of Tak, approach doors from the side rather than from the front, clicking or U-keying them open without actually passing in front of them. Back away and strafe around until you can see the mob or mobs that are behind the door, lull them, and commence the pull. For rooms that aren't blatantly blocked from view by clickable doors, your best bet is to lull mobs that are visible first. Lull those that you can see before you begin to step into the room, and make sure to move around and turn to get the biggest field of vision. Once you've done that, ease around one corner by strafing until you can see more of the room. If a mob is nearby, target it and then immediately strafe back in the opposite direction. If you do this quickly, you can get it targeted without it aggroing and lull it into submission. Repeat this with the other side and the "ambush" room is now, effectively, safe to pull. Deftly done, that whole process generally takes much less time than it would take to get an Eye into position. Also, notice that you can continue twisting while you do this (assuming you're chain pulling and that your group is close by, which it should be, this is a major boon), while with Zomm you have to spend 9 seconds waiting for its casting timer to count down. If you do decide to use an Eye for a particularly troublesome room (and in Tak, this is occasionally necessary), then try to do so without greatly slowing down the pull rate. Allow yourself plenty of time to get the lulling down correctly (i.e. start casting the Eye as soon as the group starts fighting the last mob in the current room). Once you finish lulling, you can resume helping your group finish the mob. When it is about to die, you can bring in another from the freshly lulled room with little trouble. In this way, you can use an (almost) foolproof lulling strategy without breaking your group's rhythm. Also, note this: if you don't have a Singing Steel Helm, you can still get your view inside the room to do the lull by using Lyssa's Solidarity of Vision (Bind Sight song) to attach your viewpoint to a mob that IS visible from the doorway. Once you have an inside view, you can lull any "ambush" mobs that are standing right next to the door (but out of sight from where you are standing). I hope that helped, too. :D Sorry for the lengthy post, but when I explain something I try to go in-depth.
