Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night written by - Trubador Tunesinger What you will need to accomplish this: AA abilities: Fading Memories – Basically required Run3 – Not required but helps a ton Equipment: Nothing in particular Plat: < 1000 Songs: Song of Highsun – level 56 Lyssa’s Veracious Concord – level 24 Time: Varies This event takes place in the Fungus Grove. Enter through the Echo Cavern side. Fungus Grove is basically safe. If you are not familiar with the zone please follow this link to learn more. http://www.eqatlas.com/luclin/fungusgrove.html This map is not great but will do for our purposes. To get detail on the quest we will be using please use this link. http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=1570 After you are familiar with the map and the quest read on. The basic problem with this quest is you really only want to kill one mob (Katcha lvl 48-49). He is the one that will drop the cloak we want. I suggest starting with one caller to get use to the way things work. So you start the quest and the caller will walk to his spot down one of the three tunnels. As he walks have him targeted. When he reaches his “calling” spot he will despawn then respawn. You will know when this has happened because you will lose your target. When he respawns attack him, I will explain later. Just hit him once to get agro. Then move to the center of the large room in the center of the tunnels and invis. Ok now that you have this done let me explain what the heck we are doing. As the quest states the caller will “call” mobs to him. Each time he does 3 mobs spawn either at the end of this tunnel or at its mouth. The mobs spawn and pause for a couple seconds. They then move to the caller. Because you have agro on the caller he will not attack the mobs. And for some reason they don’t attack him. This is exactly what we want. Now every “call” there is a potential for a named mob to spawn. So what we are doing is letting the mobs keep stacking up on the caller until the named we want spawns. In this case we want Katcha. As you might be thinking at this point, we are going to end up with a lot of mobs stacked up on the caller. This is ok we will take care of them in a second. So we wait, keeping invis up as to not get agro from anything else, while keeping agro on the caller. When Katcha spawns, let that group of mobs move to the caller. Now target a fiend. (the reason we pull a fiend is if you pull anything else for some reason the fiends will not agro you, but if you pull a fiend you get everything, don’t ask me, I am not sure why) So now you have a whole mess of mobs agro to you, pull them back to the Tarmok village. All hell is about to break loose, so enjoy the show. All the Tarmoks will begin attacking the stack of mobs you are bringing. Do you see what we are going yet? Now 9 times out of 10 you are going to have some healers or priests lagging behind. You need to get all the mobs engaged in town. Now you are going to cast Song of Highsun on Katcha, this will send him back to where he spawned, which is now clear. Once you are happy with the situation, use your AA fading memories. This isn’t required but helps a keep any mobs from town coming back to mess with you while you are killing Katcha. Invis up again and head back to your caller where you will find Katcha in his spawn spot ready to be killed. Couple side notes: If you use fading memories you will loose agro on the caller and he will attack the mobs (if any) around him, which will end up getting him killed. If he dies you will need to start the quest over again. You can do multiple callers at a time and just pull the group that has the named mob you want but this can get expensive after a while. So you get the idea, right? There are many variation on this you could take, but isn’t that be beauty of EQ. So use this as a base or at least and idea and go get em’. Rinse repeat until you get your: Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night LORE ITEM MAGIC ITEM NO DROP Classes: Bard Rogue Races: All Races Slot 1: Type 7 Effect: Shroud of Stealth 1: Invisibility - 1.5 sec casting time Type: Triggered Charges: Unlimited Level for Effect: 55 Rarity: Rare Level to Attain: 50 Required Level: 55 Why do we want it you ask, it can be activated from your AMMO slot, it also makes swarm kiting a dream, nuff said...

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

Ok, I've read your great guide several times now and have a couple questions. 1) Once you aggro the caller, he will chase you all around that center big cave room, or will he stand there for some reason ignoring you after you attacked him? If he chases you, you have to kite him for how long??? If he's been attacked and none of the mobs are dead, just following him around, how does he call more mobs for another chance at katcha to spawn? I've only done the caller cycle once and if I remember, you had to kill them all before the caller summoned more. I'm confused. 2) Once you have dragged the swarm to the town (including the caller, and fade, he will be dead meat to the mobs around him. Won't he die and mess you up? Do you highsun him also to get him out of harms way? I'm wanting to do this, not because I swarm anymore, but because it would be very nice to have a clicky invis so my groups don't fear for their pets... Thanks for the great guide. I look forward to trying this out. Sinfonian

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

    1) turn in the keg, bottle whatever and the caller will walk into the tunnel and stay there rooted. Aggro him with OOS or whatever so the caller wont aggro the mobs 2) the mobs can spawn outside the tunnel with the caller, or inside. depending on that you can be lucky and get the named outside with just 1 add or you have to drag em all towards town. If that happens you just snare the named and run the rest to town and go back to kill named. Caller will die but it doesnt matter since you have the named already. 3) the fastest but also hardest way to get named is to give ALL 3 callers a bottle. Once they are at their spots aggro em all and go invis in the middle of the cave. That way you have 3 callers spawning mobs which gives you more chances on a named.

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

Once the caller respawns in the call spot he is perma-rooted, he will not move from that spot untill he is dead or you turn in the contract to end the calling. He also will not attack the fungusbeasts as long as he has agro on you. For some reason, the fungusbeasts do not attack the caller unless he attacks them first. This is the only reason this whole strat works in the first place. Be careful running a large group of fungusbeasts up to the tarmok villiage. If you take too many, they will wipe out all the tarmoks and then come after you. This can cause problems if you don't have FM.

Wow! Thanks for this guide. I went and did this tonight, and for the first time since level 3, I no longer have grubs in my inventory! For a bonus, the Fungus Patch Vest dropped just before my invis cloak. Thanks again for sharing the info! Aryya

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

Armed with this guide, I went to FG last night. I do not have FM yet, but decided to try it anyway. Once I started the caller quest, I had my cloak within 30 minutes. Thanks for the great guide. :) I actually got very lucky and didn't even have to take the mobs to the village. After about 25 minutes, Katcha spawned right in front of me in the round room all alone! I tagged him immediately, and killed him. I then looted the cloak and left the zone while the caller was still calling more "beasties". HBe's probably still there!! :lol

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

As soon as Katcha spawned and I hos a fiend, I was snared with 15 mobs beating on me and had to fade or die, they then turned on the caller and killed him, any suggestions? NM I'll answer myself, keep your distance on pulls lol, got my cloak thanks!! I kind of did it my own way as I'm sure many of you will.

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

Just some quick comments - imo run 3 is required but FM is definitely not, neither is highsun. I did this at 54 solo and could probably do it at 51. Just pull everyone including the named to village. If they start killing your named, either mez or charm him. They will stop beating on the named. Biggest problem is sometimes you will wipe the village (i was giving 3 bottles to caller at once). Anyway i got 5 named, cloak and a bunch of junk. Also the snare is dispellable with our cancel magic spell. If caller dies, get another 100 plat and try again :) they respawn quick

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

It took me about 2-3 hours for katcha to spawn and drop the cloak. I had about 3 other Chakta spawns, which all dropped nothing. It seems that if you aggro the caller, and run far enough away, he'll still attack the mobs that he calls. Finally I got fed up and gave all 3 callers 4 bottles each, and both katcha and chakta spawned. The last time I tried this they mobs could see-invis, but not this time. Just invis and go target the named, pulling with bellows, charm, or mez and train the rest.

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

Lets just say it took FOREVER for me. I found the best(most money efficient way) to do this is duo with a snare-er. I twoboxed my nec and managed to pull it off after about four 5+ hour days... Basically best way is to aggro with bard by punching or whatever, have him sit OOR of mobs spawning and pulls up to top, and just track. Then when any named spawn pull named with snare and run3 up to top. Luclin pathing wont allow them to get much farther then out of the callers cave before theyll stop dead in their tracks(the puller should be at the village causing havok by that time already). Once all mobs are engaged up top, come back down and engage whichever way you like. Best idea also i found is to spawn up 2 callers, North and east or south and east. That way you can sit on north or south(opposite) side for aggroless pulls. It took a long time, got a fungi vest which was cool, 90k aint bad. and got tons of snare clickies and those stupid spines. The brains and eyes and whatever else they drop are worth like 7-20pp apeice so good idea to let them stack up also. Good guide, i just think its A LOT easier with two people. Also if you leave the cave area with the person who has aggro, THE CALLER WILL DIE. Some reason he will aggro the mobs and they will kill him. Thats why its the best idea to have the non puller sit aggro the callers. So that he doesnt leave the caves. It saves a lot of money. I went easily 4-5+ hours on 188pp instead of having to re-buy the kegs every time i pulled. Saved a lot of headache. I also never used Highsun, but run3 is required i would say easily.

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

Such an excellent guide! Thank you very much Trubador for sharing it! Just few more things: I did it today in 2 hours. (got 3 Katcha, 2 headbands and 1 cloak) Just wait for Katcha to pop and go invis target it. You can easely "chant kit" it: it doesn't summon but!...the one with the cloak will gate and heal itself; the 2 others Katcha I got do not gate and dropped the headband. My tip is: _ wait in the center of the big room that Katcha pop _ go target it (invis up) _ "chant kit" and mana drain it... _ when Katcha die, just go train the Tarmok and hit Fading Memories then come back loot. I twist Veesahn to avoid any root spells. I gave each time 1 bottles at each caller, and Katcha pops 3 times with the caller Groo.

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

i also suggest killing Tiako and chakiza for the fungal patch vest and heart of fungis. Farmed this cycle a LONG time (and sold many lot rights to cloaks too =) and ive never ever seen the heart of fungus drop, but have looted 3 vests. highsun is very very useful if you havew 2 named up you can always highsun one back to its spawn point. Also running all 3 cycles and just staying in the centre of the room hitting your track works fine. The snare glands i sell for 2k each and they really do sell pretty fast =) have never had any left after logging in the next day =)
