Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

You can area kite them down. After practicing with 2 or 3 mobs I was able to kite the whole mess np. This keeps the spawns coming, but you have quick repop time. Sometimes just as the last few were dieng, the next batch would add. Leaving me to fade to loot the rotting corpse. If you land all 4 area songs with a decent instrument you can drop all 15 mobs before the repop. Strangely the caster mobs did not present a problem if you made the circles in the right spot. It was like they were stopped and casting but not in the path of the circle, but close enough to you not to move either once finished casting (kinda rotated around in the spot until they next casted. Weird indeed, but it works. The circle is very close to right in the middle of the cave, in the low spot of the bowl. Experience was real good 1% per kill, but at the repop rate i was killing alot of mobs per hour. Did an aa in 45 mins. not bad for low blues and light blues. Moose

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

Thank you for the awesome guide. I was able to get my cloak on the first Katcha that spawned after about a half hour. This was my first attempt at this cycle, I was simply testing the waters before a raid, so I bought the cheap booze and only set off one Caller(Murrkin). I really didn't know what I was getting into since I hadn't ever really been in Fungus Grove or seen this cycle. Well, I turned in the blagrot, waited for Murrkin to depop and hit him once and go invis. A few calls later and Chakta spawns. He spawned right at the edge near where I was invis and I was able to pull him single and chant kite him in the bowl with him and his doggie while the Caller called up more beasties. After I killed him(and his little dog too *cackle*), I went back to invis and kept watching track. Two or three more calls later and Katcha spawns. Unfortunately, he didn't spawn in such a nice place as Chakta, so I had to target him out of the crowd and snare him. The rest came after me(only about 5 mobs) and I dragged them to party with the Tarmoks. After they are all engaged, I faded and Katcha was sitting nice and pretty near the bowl, just outside the cave Murrkin spawns in. I pulled Katcha with snare and one Fungusbeast Healer comes along for the ride. I immediately got them down into the bowl and then charm Katcha and set him to work on the healer while I chant kited it. Healer was down to 3% or so when charm broke, so I kite him a bit more until he's dead and set to work on the kite for Katcha. Katcha went down without trouble, snared/melee'd him when he started running from kite. And wouldn't you know it, the cloak was right there waiting for me on his corpse. All in all, it took about a half hour after about 15 minutes of preparation/scouting out the area. The Fungusbeast Healer was the only thing that landed anything on me(couple cleric nukes that got me down to 80%). I used my Shaman to pump up my disease/poison resists to 198/211. I also sang PR/DR song when I was dragging the mobs to the Tarmok camp. I can't remember if it's been brought up in the thread before, but the Cloak is clickable from inventory, does this mean any class could use it or is it still bard/rogue only?

So far in my experience as a level 55 bard with no AA in this camp I've had no trouble at all training all the mobs to the gorangas and having them deal with it then charming one and killing Katcha, I've killed him twice, but both times all I got was a crappy bracer

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

To keep the cycle going, you need to dot the caller down so that he is running and he then never aggroes the fiends. Each time he gets up to 15%, get him back down to 4 or 5%; he regens very slowly, so you have plenty of time. Noukie :)

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

Last week headed to FG and got the cloak after a couple afternoons of camping and way to much booze. Thanks so much for the guide guys, I absoloutly love this thing. :) Of note, for me Katcha spawned in the south tunnel constantly. Never got him/her/it to spawn once in the North or East, probably random and I just got a bad draw on those.

Update: I've killed him 4 times and gotten a bracer every time, now I'm gonna two box another character to hold aggro when bard runs to city so I don't have to keep wasting money. Update v2.0: After 6 kills I've come out with my cloak, 2 snare items and a bunch of bracers I deleted, took me about 900pp, I guess I was unlucky, oh well.

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

NEW UPDATE: As of 21 July 04 .... There is a new variation to the agro control on the callers... After concrete testing this is what i discovered: After you grab initial agro, and invis.... you hold agro as long as you remain in range... if you drop invis and re invis.... the agro bugs and he attacks the next call cycle. So IE... you tag caller invis a name spawns (outside for example where you can grab it solo) you kill it and reinvis... the next call after your 2nd invis will lose agro on caller Trick to this is.. everytime you go to reinvis... you must reagro the caller...

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

This Guide is very decent and everyone's input is very helpful. But I must say it is a bit of an underestimated camp, I am a 63 bard on Terris Thule and I took it upon myself to try this camp to make swarm kiting a bit easier. I currently have not acquired my Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night but I did spend 20 hours in the camp with a total of 9 deaths with 6 of those rezd so I am a bit annoyed with this zone and this quest as of my failure. Also cost me around 8k pp because of trying for many different nameds. I do not currently own Fading Memories and I am on my way to acquiring it so I can fade whenever close to death again to avoid such a horrible failure. BTW I killed Katcha 12 times, 8 Bracer 3 Helm 1 Gland and 0 cloak, during that timed kill Tiako 4 times with junk drops as well. Do not let this discourage anyone from attempting it I myself still wish to obtain this item and will return once I have Fading Memories and Run Speed 5. }:)

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

Lvl 55, no AA's, the cheap bottle for 1 caller (I used south, if you're wondering) and no deaths. No real trouble, when caller stops, punch him... then back off and invis. Check track over and over until a named you want spawns. It took me about an hour before I saw a named at all. After about 3 waves, the oldest spawns will start depopping. To kill a named, I would just stick a mez on it, and train the rest to the Tarmoks via strafe/run. Then, run around in large circles past the villagers til all the fiends were being killed. Then, run back to named, DoT it down (this was hardest part with no run AA's or speed buffs...) Killed Tiako twice, dropped the clicky snare item both times. Killed Katcha twice, second had the cloak! Total time was maybe 4 hours max. Most of it was spent refreshing track after each 'call'. Good luck! Handy item!!

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

I'm gonna try this with my beastlord doing most of the work and just wanted some comments on things I need to look out for, though it seems simple enough. I was thinking of just starting the quest by handing in the booze and then just killing each cycle as the caller spawns them i.e. not even bothering using the Tarmoks for help. In between each cycle I'd have my bard re-aggro the caller and then re-invis. I guess my real question is, with my beastlord effectively just soloing each set of three mobs as they spawn, how easy are these mobs to kill in straight up melee w/ pet? And which booze would you recommend handing in. I should probably just try it out and see what happens :p

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

Did this tonight, worked like a charm. Best option is get a bunch of bottles, give 4 to each caller, slightly spaced so you have time to aggro each caller when they repop. This is fairly cheap for the number of spawns you get. This method does require that you have FM. Once you get the named you want, mez it, pull the rest from whichever caller it spawned at, and dump them up the ramp with FM. Head back down and kill, I found meleeing was no problem. Keep snare up because they do run at ~20%.

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

I already have my cloak but revisited to get other ubah items (regen BP). This time, I got tired of just waiting there for the named, so I just started charm/swarm kiting these mobs and get exp at the same time. I am lvl 65 and have run4, so this might not work too well if lower level. When I charm/swarm kitied them, I just made sure I had PoV up for resists at all times to resist or reduce the duration of snare. I learned several things. 1) I was able to clear the mobs with charm/swarm kiting. 2) if you get snared and you have resists up, the snare will wear off sooner (in less than 6 sec with MR 335 with song). 3) if you are snared, immediately charm one of the mobs and sic em to the swarm. Try to get away from the swarm and let pet keep the swarm busy. By that time, the snare will wear off in a few seconds (as long as you have resists on). Then you just stand back and swarm kite. 4) I don't loose aggro from caller as long as I stay within center room. 5) most of the mobs are still DB and getting about 1% AA per kill...not best exp but atleast getting exp while ya camp caller quest. Hope this also works for others. Getting exp while ya wait is sure much better than none. hehe.

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

Awsome guide thx. I just gave out one brew to each caller and attacked each after they dissapeared. Then sat in middle and waited, after the named showed up I walked up to the village this caused the callers to lose aggro on me and stop calling to attack the mobs . Then after a while the mobs start to despawn. When It got to a managable croud I highsung Katcha and ran to the village keeping the named targeted, when he was hurt bad enuff by the villagers I again highsung and ran down to finnish him off. I have become the favorite in guild because I can get them this rather easily. Realy didnt take long just be patient and watch for the named on your trackin

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

As I posted above, if you're losing aggro on the callers (eg when you fade after training the spawns up the ramp and high-sunning Katcha), the answer is very simple. When the caller moves into position and respawns as a rooted caller, you get a short time before the monsters pop, in which you hit him with a couple of rounds of dots and a nuke (use a low level one for precision) to get him down to around 5%. Of course, he is running at that level, and will not attack the mobs. He regens ever so slowly, so you only need to nuke him back down ever few rounds, when he gets up around 15%. There's just no need to risk having a second toon there to hold aggro; so long as you keep him running, he doesn't hit them. The timing is pretty tight though, so you might need to come back and finish nuking him between the first and second rounds. Noukie :)

Re: Guide to acquiring a Tiny Cloak of Darkest Night

Just as a warning to potential guide followers, I spent a few hours August 5th working this event to get my cloak. Picked up a couple of nice tidbits but no cloak. However, I was contacted by a game admin and was informed that this is considered an exploit and that it is bannable. Naturally I quit at that point and will go back soon with a group and fight it "the old fashioned way".
