Useless AAs

Gah! So yesterday I spend 2 AAs on my first level of Ayonae's Tutelage. Now, for some people AAs flow in like rain in the Karanas. However, I have limited play time, so they are fairly slow for me- I get one AA about every other day or a little more at level 65. So I like my AAs spent to actually *mean* something! So off I hop to my favorite farming ground (saving money for ornate boots since I own no flags) and am all hyped to see what improvement I have on my damage songs now that I have put my first pair of points into the ability. Chant chant chant (wait for first damage report to come in)........ 117 from 65 fire chant 117 from highest poison chant 117 from highest disease chant... Exactly the same as what I was doing before. :( I send a tell to another 65 bard who has a ton of AAs and ask why I'm seeing no improvement. He asks if I'm using an elemental instrument. ummm- not unless TDoK count as elemental (and yes, I know they don't) So he tells me that the ability Ayonae's Tutelage doesn't come into play (pun intended) until you get elemental instruments. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !@#%$)@# @)_@#(_)$#(%$_+@# !#_)#$+_!+_!@))$**@$(@#)! !@)(#)@( @_(#@*(#!!!! WTF? On the description of the AA when you go to buy it, there is nothing that mentions "only those who have elemental instruments need spend these points" or any other such disclaimer. Why in the world would they leave such a "trivial" detail out??? I don't have any elemental flags, and I certainly won't be seeing any anytime soon, so knowing that oh say.... I WOULD WASTE THESE POINTS might *just* might influence what the hell I put points into. gah. /fume

Allows for further improvements in the use of all instrument and singing types, i.e. increases the instrument and singing modifier caps above 3.6. (This is not an upgrade to Singing or Instrument Mastery. It simply raises the max mod cap.)
were you at your Mod cap?

The AA is not useless. You were just to dumb to read up on them or to read the description provided in game.

Re: Useless AAs

Too dumb my ass- this is how the ability is written up in-game word for word. "This is a passive ability; it does not need to be activated. Requirements: Level 64, No previous ability requirements This ability allows for further improvements in the use of all instrument and singing types. The three ranks of this ability may be trained once each level for levels 63 and above." Now- this ability may be far from useless for those who have elemental instruments, and in fact, I'm quite sure it is. However, no mention of "mods" is made in the in-game description. I am capped as far as skill goes, and haven't put any points into instrument mastery yet- this descriptopn makes no mention of that either. So will that affect the ability? I don't know. Personally, I don't think it should be necessary to read up on a web site what foibles may be present in an in-game description. I expected the description given to be complete and accurate. My bad.

Re: Useless AAs

That sucks Laurelai. I have not read much of the ingame AA desc's but that one is pretty vague. It works like this. your TDoK has a 2.8 mod. Throw in Inst Mast 3 for an extra 0.6 for 3.4 mod. Now the cap for mods is 3.6 so you will not see any benefit from this AA yet. You would have to have a War Drums of the Rathe with a 3.4 mod and Inst Mast 2 before Ayonae’s Tutelage would help you. Sorry :( p.s. Gnos that was a little mean-spirited of you. :|

Why would you train AT before training IM?

key word is: allows to ... This doesnt mean, it will immediately ... btw. AT is SoE sort of humor "fixing" brainless settings of caps for bards, kinda expensive and ironic isnt it?
