i hate soe

Soe seems to no longer care about the everquest player, they seem to care about gaining more and more new players, an endless amount of newbies and idiots who all want everything given to them. Soe, being the idiots that they are, gave it to them. No more CRs or exp loss. Screw saving up for a bag, you can have one for free. 5 food and drink not enough? Here have 20. Can’t figure out how to mem spells and set hot keys? We can do that too. Boats take to long? Have gnomish translocaters. They take to long too? Have PoK. Don’t want to zone to get your LDoN adventure? Here’s a magus. Don’t know when you’re going to get new spells? Have a reminder message. Soe says that buying everquest goods for IRL money is against the EULA, yet, if you pay them 20$ you get a weight reduction bag. Soe balances classes by taking things away from other classes. Warriors don’t have enough agro? Lets nerf rangers! Soe adds AAs that don’t work, that are bugged, and that have no relevance to the class at hand. Soe’s solution to bugs is adding new and better bugs, and more stuff. What happened to quality>quantity? They hand out so much stuff that you can level an untwinked character from 1-25 in less then a day. 1-60 in a few months, and you wonder why BoT is so infested with newbies. Why cant soe stop making different everquest games and fix the original. Soe’s customer support consists of other disgruntled players looking for something new to do. A year ago you could log on, /who all gm, and 3-5 gms would be on, now, you log in, /petition, and 3-5 days later it gets answered by the guide, the only guide, on your server. What happened to the skill, the intelligence and the glory of this once wonderful game? What happened to meeting friends on the boat, learning new languages and role-playing? What happened to running across the world, unsowed, just to visit qeynos? What happened to nice people helping nice people, what happened to the level 50 bard helping the level 20 bard get his dark elf mask? What happened to east commonlands, home of the trader, "3 bags of stuff at torch 2". What happened to newbies being content with what they had, as opposed to running to PoK and demanding items and plvling? What happened to playing everquest?

While I do agree with some of this, you also have to take into consideration what SoE does to remedy trivializing the game too. For instance, they put a level restriction on KEI, Virtue, FoS etc. IMO, these were way more trivializing than giving newbies a bag or some food. "Soe balances classes by taking things away from other classes. Warriors don’t have enough agro? Lets nerf rangers!" You can't increase each classes powers to fix class balancing, or that would trivialize the end-game mobs. Granted that we bards got pretty screwed with AE kiting and lulling (which I don't disagree with I guess, just hurt us), but to increase every other class' abilities to match these abilities would overpower everyone.

Imagine that a carpenter makes a table. He then realizes that one of the legs is to short and starts sanding the rest down. When he’s finish he stands the table back up, only to realize that another leg is too short. This continues until the table is not longer a table, but a flat piece of wood. Soe balances one class by degrading another, that class cries out, so they degrade yet another. This seems to be whets happening, and if it keeps happening, and more classes crie out "injustice", then it will come back to bite another class in the butt. I am not saying that they should give yet more handouts to classes; I am only saying that they should have measured the classes correctly in the first place.

You cant make all the people happy all of the time. SOE is a business. They need to attact and keep new players as well as cater to the folks that have been playing a while. EQ is a game. If it stops being fun, then stop giving SOE your money. It is THIER world. Welcome to it. If you dont like it, no one is forcing you to play. Your credit card speaks louder then your keyboard.

    Re: i hate soe

While SOE has done some things that infuriate me, for the most part they have done a very good job at keeping the game "new" - I was going to say fresh but it is more or less the same things in new places. Occasionally after these changes things get out of balance and they try to correct them usually (well always) this involves a nerf or two. However, overall we are better off than we were before the expansions or addition of new items and content. Take LDoN for example, before LDoN I was never the puller because no one would do a dungeon crawl. It was always get to a spot and camp the hell out of it. Now after they changed the way lull works but honestly lull was not used that much before ldon so it wasnt overpowered - which would you rather have LDoN or a 2 min lull? And as far as new levels go - leveling from 1-10 was never very much fun after the first time. 10-20 wasnt much better so why not make leveling quicker to get to the part of the game where most players are? My one complaint now is that there is so much unused content out there. Just try to get in to Paw or Seb (heck even Karnors is empty now)without brining your own group. This makes it very hard to learn a zone. It would be interesting to see an LDoN type change to these zones - but it would never happen.

    Re: i hate soe

Yeah, one of my biggest complaints would be the unused content. It seems like such a waste of gaming space when everyone just goes to the same zones to do stuff. I would love to see more revamps, but not just making more uber mobs who drop uber loot. I'd love to see more quests implemented. Again, it doesn't have to be uber, just interesting and at least marginally worth doing. If its neat, they will come. I guess sometimes I too long for the days of yore... The inherent problem I see is that the loot distribution is so unbalanced. All the best stuff drops in the same places, and usually those same places have the best xp. Even just a simple xp distribution, such as zone-wide xp modifiers (ala Paludal) could make for more zone usage. Just my thoughts. Longing for the good ole days, Myrmion 65 Bard, Xegony

    Re: i hate soe

I've always thought xp mods were a bad idea. PC is no harder then Ill Omen nor more remote so why do you get such a mod there? I've always felt that mods should vary zone to zone to keep people in other zones but that is just my opinion. As for faster leveling... I've seen more complaints about idiots at higher level then ever before. Leveling needs to be harder which it won't be and never made easier which it will be. Hell Levels were something I hated but saw as something needed. I remember seeing people hit 29 and vanish to a new character. This was good...It didn't allow people to just move on and on. Reminds me of a grade school; you can't fail! I'd say a good 75% of the people who are 65 now wouldn't have made 50 PreKunark. I'd wager 99% of the rogues wouldn't... But this is now and it is a different game. There are more damaging things then class inbalance at work now. On that topic though... Balancing is a hard thing to do. If you balance by raising you make some things easier for all...Then you have to raise those things which makes it harder for some people to get. I've never tried balancing a plate on a stick but SoE is trying. Not doing too well but trying. EQ has never been flawless but it is the flaws it has that I like. I like challenges I mean hell I played a rogue to 50 before Kunark...Some people might call me a glutton for punishment heh. Most of the challenges now seem to be dealing with stupidity...heh Oh well.

That is exactly how I feel. They need to have atleast equal exp in the zones so all the zones wont be so overcrowded. I also dearly miss the EC trading area. Bazaar just sucks in my opinion. I hate the idea of leaving my compute on while I sleep. Idk there is just something about it. The KEI and level recommendations on the weapons probably pissed me off the most. I understand the reasoning behind this but I personally think its a pain in the ass.

    Re: i hate soe

I just hate how they individually and purposefully stretch out the content to literally force you to buy all the expansions. Kunark and Velious weren't bad, and added some much needed content without any real repercussions for non users. But now that they basically beefed all the older world zones, especially places like Cazic, Hate, Droga, and Chardok, it makes getting the new expansion equiptment necessary. And the upgrades, are specifically released in each expansion with just enough need as to almost require you to buy it. Luclin: When in came out the Nexus was the god of transportation, those who didn't have it were stuck using boats, and screwed on trading since the Bazaar was the greatest thing to ever hit the market. Not to mention kitties and horses. Legacy of Yekesha: Charm slots, Dyes, a new race and double the bank space were great additions almost guarunteeing a buy, but then the inclusion of cartography sealed the need, players flocked to online downloading. Oh, and a new race...again. Planes of Power:  REQUIRED FOR RAIDING!!! Absolute dirtiest thing Verant ever did, with the raid window, anyone who didn't have PoP couldn't be invited and basically was excluded from raiding. Also Transportation became so much easier, and basically knocked Luclin out of usefulness. LDoN: Well now, let's just make an easier way to get groups and exp, invent a personalized group prancing session. As if finding a group in an older zone wasn't hard enough already. Plus who can deny the power of augments, that alone could have forced players to buy. GoD: The godliest of all items, I mean a 65/30 Berzerker axe with a proc and 300hp, yeah that really compares to old world. And if the items don't grab you, the unbelieveable AA's and leadership abilities can rope you in. It's all so calculated to make Verant ungodly amounts of money for each release, and the content (storyline, point of each item, quality of the quests) has all gone down as they just try to pump them out like a puppy mill. And then they screw up with patches and their login server...come on. Personally I really would play on a server that was Pre-Velious only. Feydrioron of Rodcet Nife
