    Toggle Mezzing & Mob Herding

Toggle Mezzing is both the most impressive and most frustrating technique I've used in this game. Impressive because it is really, really cool, and frustrating because 99.99999999% of the time, your group won't notice you're doing it. Toggle Mezzing allows you to keep one mob perma-mezzed while meleeing and all-out twisting on another mob. Sound cool? It is. And it's really, really easy. First you need to go into your options and set up your toggle mob key. This feature is blank by default and a number of people don't even realize it exists. The key will toggle between your last two targets. Now you want to set up an assist key for the MA/MT. This is vital because clicking around in a fight to get a new target often gets a groupmate or a pet. Always a pet. Especially necro pets. Those things have a target box large enough to hold Woodstock in. So we've got two mobs, let's call one the victim and the other the mup. The victim is getting the beat down, the mup is an add or a mob you've brought in to keep on deck, and once you get this technique down, there's no reason for you not to always have a mob on deck, making you the most effective chain puller in the game. Target the mup and mez it. Once it's parked, hit assist and begin a 3-song twist. Melee songs, whatever. Oh and beat on the mob. At the end of the 3rd song, hit your TOGGLE key. Your target is now the mup. Begin singing mez, and IMMEDIATELY hit TOGGLE again. As you should know, the song checks for target at song initiation, not at casting. So you're now meleeing the victim again while mez is on its way to the mup. Watch for a successful mez message, then do your 3-song twist again. This is easiest with the lvl 65 mez song that doesn't move the mup. With the lower-lvl mez songs, you will have to watch your position or you'll push the mup OoR, or through a wall and under the world, or over a ledge or something inconvenient like that. Things to watch out for: 1) Ensure your back is to the mup or you're out of melee range of it. Toggling targets does NOT turn off auto attack. Don't be the bard constantly breaking your own mezzes. 2) Don't use DoTs in your twist until you're very comfortable with this technique. DoT the wrong target and you've potentially killed your group. 3) Make sure people know NEVER to assist you, only assist the MT. If people assist you, they might get the mup not the victim. Mob Herding This is simply a method of guiding the mup short distances around a corner or down a hall so they're in LoS for Toggle Mezzing when you're using the lvl 65 mez song that doesn't move a mob by itself. You need Bellow AA for it, so sorry to those who don't have that yet. I suppose thrown weapons could do the same thing, but there will be range issue and I don't think I've ever met a bard that's maxed throwing, or even carries thrown weapons. Let's say the mup is just around an obstacle and you need to move it 2 feet for proper positioning. If you break mez, it'll take 3 seconds to re-park. During 3 seconds a mob can do all sorts of nasty things. Chain-stun/kill you, kill the healer, CH the victim etc. etc. What you want is the mob off the leash for 1 second, or even less. Begin singing mez on the mup. 2/3 through the casting bar, bellow at it to break mez. The mup will move, and mez will hit 1 second later. With a little practice, you'll know exactly when to hit bellow to move the mob the distance you need it moved. In the case of caster mobs that like to stand in one place and cast on you for 3-4 hours, begin mez, position yourself near something that will break LoS, bellow, then immediately move out of LoS. This will force the caster mob to come find you. With caster mobs it sometimes takes 2 - 3 herdings to position them where you want them. Dlandridel Cadence Maestro of Grey Hawke Karana Server

Want group to know you're doing it?.. make a hotkey: /g Mezzing %t /cast # This is the only song I have a hotkey for (11,22,33 :) ) . There is a reason chanters hotkey a mez message--- so people know not to attack mobs that are being mezzed

Re: Toggle Mezzing & Mob Herding

Personally, I have messages hotkeyed for lull, mez and charm. The first tells people what there is that I'm NOT pulling, the second reminds them that they're supposed to be assisting the main tank, and the third simply says, "Hey, look at me, I just doubled my DPS and halved the damage we're taking!" :D On an added note, as I've seen elsewhere it's a good idea to make full use of %o, %s and %t in your messages to your group, so that they can distinguish between two mobs with the same name but different genders.

Not at all nerfed. Toggle key is available to all classes, and targeted bard songs are always applied to the target at the beginning of the song cast, not the end. That mob herding idea is cool, never knew that.

I have used this to great effect for a long time, but, I totally forgot about the fact that the mezz would land on the "mup" even if I toggeled to the "victim" before the casting was complete. You can get a few extra hits in during that cast time! Genius! Thanks for this guide. The extra tidbit about repositioning with the Bellow AA is great, too. I will have to work on the timing of that - but, that's a great tool. Good work! =)

Re: Toggle Mezzing & Mob Herding

Nice post) Ever since I can remember I have been comfortable using toggle to mezz a mup while twisting 3 others and hacking away... some time ago that changed and it took me a good while to work out why. There are a few things in game that force a target change - by this I do not mean that the mob you have targetted is altered, I mean if you attempt to cast a mezz at mob A then toggle to mob B and hit bellow mid-cast the mezz song u are halfway casting will have its target forcibly changed to mob B ( the mob u have targetted when you bellow.. it is bellowing that causes the change). Shortly after the DoN expansion was released I found I was regularly mezzing the wrong mob while toggling. At first I assumed it was human error or lag,but it transpires that the new DoN song and likewise shm spirit of leopard spell both force a target change each time they process. So upshot of all this, don't try toggle mezzing while storm strike/leopard is active... it makes you look real bad hehe Incidentally, I have my toggle setup on the 0 key of my numeric pad.. I find it to be the most convient as it is always easily reached by the hand on my cursor keys

I have used this for a long time now and your right the group most times will never realise your doing it.. they must just think our mezz lasts a realy long time. The toggle through closest mobs is a great toggle for out and out CC when over run. i have been able to control 4 mobs for a long time while the group stops screaming for evac and realizes things arent so bad. Raid creep drives me insane. So I'm always using the start mez/bellow/mez lands with mob closer to raid thing. Then melee doesn't have to keep moving forward to engage mobs. Kinda scares enchanters when I do that, but they're used to me doing it now. Laellanna Angelsigh Memento Reejeryn Lanys T'Vyl

Re: Toggle Mezzing & Mob Herding

I use Storm blade so often that even when I am not using it I dont rely on toggle mezzing anymore. I just target the mob and click mez. Plus, I dont lose track of which ones I am mezzing so much if we have multiples of the same type of mob and they are rushing around as in certain events. PON Hedge comes to mind along with bum-rush one group raids on Grummus.

Re: Toggle Mezzing & Mob Herding

JUST SO ya' all know :)

toggle mez away.... they have fixed the issue's with stormsong / panther / leopard and puma ( has been fixed for quite awhile btw ) and as i haven't been back to EQdiva in many years i thought i'd share that insight with you.

want a great camp to relearn this skill at?  in the new expansion , Loping plains, Gobbie camp :) .. roughly 30 mobs and w/ any competant group, you can quite literally drop them all on respawn chain pulling nonstop / toggle mezzing , dps'ing.

If your truly game i noticed a post here about bellow aa/ mez and moving mobs as well... here's a tip to help groups remember your name and call on you FIRST when looking for added dps / puller / cc  :)

pull 2  ( or 3 or 4 whatever :P ) mez 1 ( using twitch mez ) bring other in for tank to aggro and group to kill.  stand in a position where you are facing the mob your killing AND the mob that's mezzed. using toggle mezzing twist 3 dps songs ( haste, ds, storms, mana whatever ya wish ) and one mez ( toggling ). this does a couple of things for you. the mezzed mob is moving toward the group while being in complete control ( and outta the fight ) , your dps'ing the main mob, keeping people seeing your songs going.  Now here's the trick : ALWAYS make the mezzed mob LAND right where the old one was. ie: the moment the 1st mob dies, park the mezzed mob right in front of the tank, he never has to move, ever. just aggro and attack again. believe me, this takes QUITE a bit of practice, especially when ya get daring and are pulling 3 or 5 mobs atta time. but i have stood at the gobbie camp ( am using this as my latest example of  using this technique to impress not only fellow guildies but also all the people i haven't seen in awhile coming back to the game. ) for over 6 hours and my MT hasn't had to move a single step, ever. ( course you'll always end up boring the hell outta him and he'll want to drag mobs all over just to be able to move but /shrug that's a different problem lol  ) where the bellow aa trick comes in handy is if you mezzed the first one too far out..start your mez, back behind the tank, bellow and as he runs towards ya he aggro's the tank, just about that same time your mez relands and he's back under control.

    enjoy:) ..
