    Re: Vanguard and Bards

Just a note for anyone that is interested in Vanguard... They went to attunability for all player crafted gear yesterday. I am not sure how well this is gonna work, with the abundance of dropped, resellable gear. I would think they would have to make most gear attunable to keep a market for the player crafted, but thats just my slant. I have been somewhat dissapointed with the bugginess of the game. Just recently a series of quests allowing small group/solo players to get decent gear and as near as I can tell, most of it doesn't work. Lag in groups in dungeons is not acceptable to me, still (but I do just fine in small groups or solo.) I still get booted a lot, I can no longer /camp...its busted, autofollow went from very acceptable to hardly working, etc. I like a lot of things about the EQ3 (Vanguard). Nevertheless, all but one of the folks (some of whom were more VG positive than me) that I came over weith with from EQ2 have left. (Lord of the Rings online, anyone?) They put in a PoK teleport type system, not as extensive, but reminiscent of EQ1 Luclin/PoK. I wouldn't buy a lot of Sigil or SOE stock atm if it meant bettin' on EQ3. (don't let anyone tell you it ain't EQ3...by all appearances SOE has a lot of control and is getting more as time passes...if it looks like dog doodo, and smells like dog doodoo, for all practical purposes, it IS dog doodoo, lol) Again, I'm still playing. That says something. (paid for 6 mos to save money, lol). I won't invest time in my crafter till I see how the new changes shake out though. I logged on and sold all my attunable gear and bough droppable before market pricing reflects the changes. Ah, I would say the bard is getting more to my liking, as he approaches 20. DPS is respectable, the ability to craft your own song is neat, but a bit daunting to do on the fly in a fast moving group, if you havn't pre-planned. We run fast. The CC utility is too limited at my level, at least, with only a single target mez. You do press a lot of buttons. Its not like twisting, but you do cast/recast every 3-4 secs (some of them are two key things...ie bellow and deaggro you might cast everytime they are available and follow imediatly with a refrest of another ability. Krescendo 19 Bard Diggens Eweup 25 Necro Purrth 19 DK Mohjow 19 Shaman ....et all on the Florendyl server. (PS RP is still alive on Florendyl, but certainly not the rule. RP moderate to heavy guilds are surviving and appear to be growing some.)

    Re: Vanguard and Bards

Well its been ages since I've come to this forum. So I'll do a post... Yes I'm in VG level 31 bard, enjoying the game immensely, even with the bugs.. well truthfully the only bug thats bugging me is the hitching, (traversing chunks/zones) but that seem to be improving of late. I haven't had the problems mentioned by cujomatic had stated.. except for the occassional lag.. in dungeons.. but boy do I love those dungion crawls. Its damn exciting. and some of the quests like a place in the Strands of the Ancient, where at the end of basically 16 chained quest and the end ecounter feels like a raid for a group.. Anyways. I like the game.. I wish it had a more polish to it and a few fluff stuff.. ((social animations really need a good work over)) As for traveling, I don't have a boat right now.. but a few friends of mine do. its still a bit buggy because of the hitching. If they get that figured out sailing a boat around the to different parts of the world is great.. total control as it is I still like it and its fast too. The riftways.. ((or the PoK like travel that was mentioned)) I disagree that its a PoK like. THere are 3 different lines of riftways.. and each one goes to different part of the world, You still need to travel there tho, to unlock the riftways. At first I was against the Riftways, because I was of mind that traveling was part of the adventure... but after traveling back and forth a few times.. I kind of like the riftways.. You still have to travel around by foot/horse to get to places still but it cuts down on the time at least. I know SOE and Sigil are currently talking about a different relationship.. and I worry about it a bit because I like the current direction that Vanguard took. I'm not sure SOE would keep it if they had more control.. just my opinion. edit: ohh I'm also on the Florendyl server... First time doing RPing.. I love it. :)

    Re: Vanguard and Bards

Well its officially EQ3 in all but name now, as SOE has 'taken over'. We shall see what the future brings. I am currently 27 on my Necro, two-boxing 22 Dk/Shammy, my bard is 19 and I have a 16 warrior and 8 cleric, among others, lol. I love the necro, but as in other EQ's, he's not the group toon the others are. I can't really get into the bard, but may give him a go and see how post 20 goes, since the guy I duo with will be off some in the next few weeks. I have probably mentioned this, but it's funny when people new to the game come on in regionsay and ask what the best solo toon is...and invariably several people say cleric. They are sure someone is pulling their leg. Now that SOE is calling the shots, I worry about 'balancing', but, as I said, we shall see. The last long 'Brad Post' pretty much let everyone know that most performance tuning will take the form of people updating to mega pc's in the next year, lol (since they will have to to get Vista to work). There are a few people who's 8800's are now working quite well, and they are happy, but still others with troubles.
