Help! Need Advice for an Omens-era Returnee

    Hello there fellow bards,

I took a long break from the game soon after Omens was released.  I had multiple accounts at the time, but I decided to return with my bard, a lvl 68 toon with few AAs.  He was my least-developed, "goof-off" character, but he's also the character I recall having the most fun playing.  I'm not looking to return to raiding, or even grouping for the most part.  I just want a toon I can solo fairly effectively, and use to goof off and explore the game when RL permits.

The game has changed a lot since I left.  What are auras and how do you get them?  Since when can you find 200+ hp gear in the bazaar for 1-2k?  What's the difference between Warped Steel and Elegant armor, and why would I want one over the other?  There is so much new content, I don't know where to begin.

My eqplayers page doesn't update correctly, but the bard has mostly composer's gear for the visible slots, and some recent, cheap bazaar upgrades for a few of the other spots (I still can't get over that you can buy non-visible slot items with 250/250 on it for less than 5k).  He's got about 5k hps and 5k mana unbuffed.  He has epic 1.0.  He has FM, Run 3 and Regen 3, and that's it.  I've got about 20k plat left to spend, but I am fairly certain I will use that to get as many 66-68 songs as I can.

I've been swarm kiting at the gargoyle fort in PoN for the past few days.  The xp seems really good to me, and I've been thinking it would be best to stay at 68 for a good while, to get some basic AAs and re-gear myself before moving on.

Do any of you have advice for any soloable quests, good gear upgrades, xp spots and AA paths to follow for a toon that will be chiefly soloed?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Auras are just another line of songs/spells.  Their buff goes into the Song window and in the Aura window it shows what current Aura you are playing.  Once you start an aura it usually will not stop unless you fade or get stunned.  They affect everyone within a certain radius of you.  Bard auras increase speed and crits.  Our lvl 55 Aura of Insight is quested... Kill 4 guys and turn in the items.  Lvl 70 Aura of the Muse is the reward for the Skylance: the Labortory quest.  Lvl 80 Aura of the Artist is a dropped spell and can be player bought in the Bazaar.  Aura of the Artist Rk. II you can buy from an NPC if you have the the correct faction.

Warped Steel armor is part of the upgradeable armor.  Combine it with other items to get tier 2,3 & 4.  Warped Steel Breastplate can be made into Cloudsteel Breastplate of the Dream along with other types.  Elegant armor and others along that line are curtural/player made.

About the prices of gear.  With the latest expansion, a zone known as Dragonscale Hills came about.  In this zone, people are busy farming faction to purchase rkii spells, or pireces to upgrade to their tier 1 (warped steel) armor.  Well a lot of people are farming the faction and getting names left and right at places such as "the farm" camp.  Great items drop (in my opinion) from low level mobs, so people just offloading them in the bazaar.  Take advantage of it =)

For bards, you may want to look out for the following, all being sold very cheaply and easily obtained.

    Fearpoint (weapon)
    Bejeweled Parrypoint (weapon)
    Felmight Fetish (range)
Badge of the Resolute Defender (range)
    Felmight Gorget (neck)

Might also want to check out

Stitched Flesh Cloak ( back )

    Stonewall Pauldrons ( Shoulder )

Black Steel Wrap ( waist )

Dwerium Jewelry for ears / fingers and possibly bracers are also pretty impressive with the right stones in them.

At 68 with Dwerium rings, ears and one bracer currently have with various Harmonagate cut stones, Round Cut Peridot and Opal - roughly 30 AC 20 to str dex sta or str dex agil, plus 350 hp 200 mana and 20 to a handfull of resists. You can fill face, neck, wrists, ears for a total of 8 slots with this sort of item, though given the price of some of the SoF drops and the additional benefits you get from them, you probably only want to pursue the player jewelry for slots you can't find a suitable alternative for.

The jewelry stuff was somewhat putzed a while back, the scaling for being under level was way out to lunch - they seem to have corrected it now though in that the various types of metals now have a level rec, and the quality of the metal impacts the % of the gem stats you actually benefit from - that said, here is some info on the various gems you can put into the trio jewelry items.

Thanks for all of the additional info, Rany and Ryson.  I picked up a parrypoint for 5k in the bazaar, and the Dwerium pieces look like good stuff.  Thanks again for all of the help.

Re: Help! Need Advice for an Omens-era Returnee

Last time i played.(in 2007 somewhere around there)

There was 300hp gear and i've seen up to 500hp gear.

I was doing alot of tss and tbs.

The direwind gear isn't bad,and if you get to 70+ and faction+the right level then you can do missions in katta castrum.(good luck getting people for it)

I had the occasional group wanting to go but alot didn't want to go for some reason and instead went to ashengate.

Ashengate and outside ashengate area is great xp at 70+,don't get me wrong.

Also the xp deep inside valdeholm is actually very good xp.

I also went to vergalid mines but th xp isn't as good there.

Anyways about the gear in the buried sea expansion zone(katta castrum) you need very high faction to get gear.In fact you should max it out and get upgrade gear there and work your way up.Look up about the augs that come with the gear as each one has a dif effect and there is a thing that raises int str etc and lowers the other.Make sure that you don't get some gear wich raises str and lowers mana and int or something.
