    Holy crap its Gaedan

And he's forgotten how to play!

It's true - I decided to have a bit of nostolgia and enjoy a brand new bard (that and Gaedan is long gone) and I've got to 31 and realized, holy crap, I have no idea what I'm doing. :D

Any tips for the newbie bard in his 30s?  Tactics?  Is chant kiting still just as insanely boring as it was before?  Is charm the way to go?  Or should I load up on buffs from someone and start meleeing?

Kocho!!!  <3 Congrats on your child!  Myself I am getting married in three months!  :D  Finally found someone silly enough to marry my goofy ass.

I've been playing WOW, COH, you name it, but finally got back into EQ1 for grunts and grins.  And like Cajun, I'm definately feeling a bit lost, especially since I don't have Gaedan any more so I had to start from scratch.  I think I have to re-learn how to charm kite. :p  I'm 31 now - just been meleeing stuff down with my filthy twinks but I think that's running out now.  My goal is to finish the quest I never could as Gaed, the epic! :P

So I need to get levels, heh.  Any suggestions on tactics?  Did they nerf AE kiting?

Its great to see people that I know are still around - well, I guess Kocho is always around being the owner of the site and what not. :D

Edit: that's a cute picture of you and your daughter, Kocho - is she a little diva in training?

The Bigest thing I have noticed is how out of wack the gear I have  is. I had Twiglight armor then the rest of the crap ears so on so forth, well I see some of the gear that is out there now and I am like crap this stuff sucks.

easist way to state it is I have 3k hp unbuffed I saw another bard 2 levels higher 65 and he ahad 10k unbuffed.

Cajun doesn't feel strong anymore, So I am debating on how to accomplish re equping my bard with out any other toon to suplly the money. ought to be fun. but hey I enoy the new zones I just don't know if I can make it work for my casual gaming self now

     Gaedan!

Wow, what a blast from the past.  I've been away from the game for years now.  Some of the Molto crowd went to eq2 at launch, but we all got fed up with the "Wowification" of the game at different points.  We went back to try eq2 PvP when it started, and had some fun with that for a while.  But again, with every patch, they handed new players stuff we had worked hard to get, and it just pissed me off.  That and the way that zoning worked, and the rating system created a culture of cowardice where people were more interested in running away from any fight they weren't guaranteed to win just to save their precious titles.

I watched Vanguard with great interest, and a few of us played at launch, but that fizzled for a number of reasons too.  Cantilena and I played LOTRO, and got lifetime subs.  I got tired of it, but she still playes 24-7.  I thought about trying Age of Conan, but didn't bother.  I think I'm burnt out on the whole genre, really.

But, as nostalgic as I am, I keep coming back to these forums.  All this time I kept bumping the "People who resurrect months-old threads" thread in the rant section on the OLD forums -- showing up dutifully once a month.  It appears that it's finally truly gone though.  http://p066.ezboard.com/beqdivabardsofeverquest  I went to do my June /bump, and the page was still there, but no forums.  :(

Kocho, the archived section was very important, and the biggest value of eqdiva was the wealth of information contained in them, a lot of which is still tremendously useful to new bards. Is there a way we can get the old threads up and running, and make them easier to find too?

Hey no derailing my thread, make your own.  This is about me and my ego. :D

Klapton, I actually got to look at the alpha and beta of VG and I was horribly unimpressed.  The failure of the launch didn't surprise me, that game was flawed on a development/project management level which is shame.  I bounced around a lot too - actually spent a lot of my MMO time in WOW and enjoyed it greatly and actually I am enjoying EQ2 now because its more like WOW.  Go figure. :D  I've never been one for "hard work" anyway.  But it is good to see yet another friendly face around here. :D

So back on topic, I got Shuggipants up to 37 yesterday finally figuring out charm/swarm kiting in Blightfire.  I probably trained a few people and definately made some newbie mistakes but by the end of the night I was comfortable with a decent sized train of about 5-6 bees.  Timing (and not having the hide button) is something I still need to learn (sometimes my pet dies too fast) as well as how to make sure the whole swarm sticks on my pet.  I think I am missing something there.

There's a lot of good info about that in the archive section Big Smile

     Holy crap, it's Espio!

We just need Steppy, Krescendo, and a few others and we will have an old-school reunion!

    Don't I count as old-school Klappers?

Quick wave to all. Like K I am pretty fed up with the current set of MMOs. I've played a couple of freebies lately but not with any great relish. I miss the days when devs allowed players to make a genuine difference to an encounter, primarily through controlling skills. The last game to offer that was CoH! I did enjoy the Blood Mage on Vanguard but the game was just too flawed, and things seemed to get worse rather than better - if another MMO comes along that offers something like that or the EQ Bard or Enchanter I would try it. Otherwise I'll be playing MMOs only very occasionally if at all.

As for level 31, I remember using a combination of charm and melee duoing with a cleric at that time, and very shortly after doing the dungeon circuit. But I was an AC-based bard and it was pretty unusual at that time (early-Kunark). Things have probably changed greatly since then, but nothing could make chant-kiting exciting; really, nothing!

Let us know how things go Gaedan, both with your EQ bard and the impending marriage! I wish you all the best with both, but particularly the latter.

Zel!  Of course you count as the "old school" crowd!  Sorry I missed you in my little list.  There's others that I would probably smack myself on the head and say, "Oh yeah!" about if they were to show up here now.  Yes, I wanted Vanguard to be great SO badly...  We gave it an honest try, did we not?
