This is the first of the two LoY spell quests and possibly very quick. If you're around level 50, Dulak (where the quest takes place) is also a pretty nice place to hang out since virtually everything is blue, and there are a TON of spawns here.
The quest actually starts in Gunthak, with Kardin Nilic near the lighthouse, loc is about 1650, 50. Note that you can skip this part and do it after the Dulak bit if you're in a rush to get started. Hail Kardin and follow the text.
Next, head to Dulak (I advise invis). On the south side of the docks, between the two boats there's a tavern. Go in and take a peek, on the left side, standing next to the doorway to a side room is a Broken Skull Troubadour, an erudite male. Loc on the Troubadour is -700, -650. He's our target. Also take note of a Tavern Wench who's near the door. You'll probably also have one guard-type troll just outside the dock in the street.
It's possible to pull the troubadour, invis before he gets to you, and get just these two adds, then take them somewhere in the zone, kite them down. That's too much work, and a pain unless someone else is clearing out a fairly good sized piece of real estate they'll let you kite in.
The easier method is this: stand just outside the door of the tavern and charm the Tavern Wench. Set her on the guard. By the time the charm wears off, they'll both be at 40% or thereabouts, just kite them down by wandering back and forth on the street in front of the bar. You can go a little ways past the bar on each side, enough to make a nice little oval, and going out, you can go midway across the street without aggroing the way across. These random extra mobs have fairly small aggro ranges.
Beware that when the last one to die is low, s/he will try to run, so have snare up.
When that's done, feel free to walk into the bar (just far enough to get a visual on the Troubadour -- nothing should aggro if you go straight in between the two barkeeps) then pull him and kite him in the same spot. He can drop "a faded songbook" which is what you're after. If you get it, great, if not, hunker down for the respawn (about 20 minutes). By the way, if you need a place to rest up, in the bar, across from the entry door is a hole in the floor. You can safely drop invis (even sitting) in the corner there behind the hole.
Only other spawn that might possibly get in your way is a single roaming guard down the street there. Take him at your leisure if he's getting in your way.
Once you have the songbook, head back to Kardin Nilic in Gunthak, and do the starting bit if you haven't yet, then give him the book. He gives you a different one, take that to Jusean Evanesque who's at the Bard guild in South Qeynos, give it to him, he gives you a book to take back to Kardin, give him the book you got from Jusean, and voila, the Aria of Asceticism is yours.
