SOE took a big risk, and pretty much blew it....

Multiple (nearly all) server mergers, a very major live update, multiple minor ones, pvp servers going live, and an expansion....all in about a 2 week period? Many of us on the Sony boards commented how risky this would be. In all fairness, it would be for anyone, but for Sony Offline Entertainment (not my moniker, unfortunately) it was a very very big risk, and they, so far, have blown it big time. The Befallen/Faydark merger was a disaster, 30 sec to over 2 minute lags in chat (funny in casual channel chat, bad in groups, disasterous in raids). In EQ 2, many toons twist almost like a bard with various combo's. Real lag is disasterous, and some folks have found the game on the Merged server intolerable. Its probably not as bad a PoK was in the first few days after release, but evidently some of the non-instanced raid zones have become impossible. One positve thing, none of the other servers have done their mergers (they had them scheduled 1 a day for a week). At any rate, for a few pages full of rants: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board?board.id=201

Well, not completely. The pvp is an awesome experience. I've been on beta as a troubador for over a week now. It's some real fast paced, exciting stuff. I can't say enough about how fun it is. I haven't tried any experiencing outside of pvp yet, but I give it a huge thumbs up. The new leveling system is also smart for those who want to make alts. It's much nicer to feel class specific at level one. I have no experience with the aa's, but I expect they'll be a nice addition as well. Lag may be bad (I was on lucan so it didn't affect me), but some of the new changes were good.

Concerning lag... I play on the antonia bayle server. The chat lags you describe sounds very much like the normal everyday lag there, which has been present for just about a year now. Server mergers were probably a good idea, it just sounds like they merged the wrong ones and still decline to entertain the idea of splitting any of the heavier-load ones. blah.

I don't know, chat lag in tells, I can live with, the group/raid chat lag and casting lag is unaceptable, at least for me. My fun factor took a big hit. I play some on AB (never raided there) and have never had problems, but its just an escape toon that stays away from crowds.
